DALLAS – March 15, 2017 – Earlier today, a federal judge in Hawaii blocked the Trump administration's revised version of its Muslim Ban. The judge cited statements from Trump and his advisers as evidence that the intention of the executive order was to discriminate against Muslims -- a clear violation of the U.S. Constitution which forbids the government from favoring or disfavoring a particular religion. Read the order below. Read the Washington Post article on this judicial ruling.
While this is a positive development, the fight for equal treatment of Muslims in America is far from over. This administration has made promises to bulldoze over the constitutional rights of the Muslim community in multiple ways.
We can't let this happen. We must continue to fight back!
The blocking of both Muslim Bans proves that the fight to defend constitutional rights will happen in the courts -- which is where the work that MLFA funds takes place. So, we need your continued support for the following MLFA-funded projects:
- Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America -- the largest nonprofit law center dedicated to defending constitutional rights for Muslims in America. Led by senior level attorneys, CLCMA offers services spanning areas of law that include immigration, civil, criminal and nonprofit compliance.
- Muslim Leadership Law Conferences -- regional law conferences that deliver practical information about laws impacting mosques and other Muslim nonprofit organizations as well as the imams, board members, staff and attorneys who serve them.
Muslim Legal Fund of America is a national nonprofit charity that funds projects to defend constitutional rights in America. Established in 2001, MLFA has defended freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to a fair trial, due process of law and many other constitutional rights.
