Imam Fights for his Life and Freedom
MLFA takes on new case and needs your immediate support
Greetings of peace,
Many of you may know of Sheikh Ibrahim Dremali. He is a well-respected and accomplished imam who became seriously ill a few years ago. He has been in and out of hospitals, undergone intense chemotherapy and suffered the pains of difficult treatment as he struggles to regain his health.
His body has weakened, but his dedication to his faith remains strong. Even from his hospital bed, he video records short lessons about belief, character and counting God's generous blessings. He asks friends to post these videos online in hopes that someone may benefit from them.
As his continues to struggle with his health, he has been touched by the outpouring of loving support and prayers from people all over the world. Yet, he is beginning to face additional challenges... challenges he never imagined were possible in America... challenges to his freedom.
Federal law enforcement agents approached Sheikh Dremali on several occasions and tried to convince him to submit to a voluntary interview without an attorney present. He exercised his Fifth Amendment rights granted by the U.S. Constitution by declining each request.
In October, agents made a big scene by blocking off his street, knocking on his door, shoving guns in his face and then dragging him and his wife to prison. So, it appears that this beloved imam, who is fighting for his life, is now the victim of law enforcement retaliation.
With these theatrics, you would think that Sheikh Dremali and his wife are being charged with serious or dangerous crimes. The truth is nothing like this. He and his wife are not being charge with terrorism or anything remotely related to terrorism. The prosecutors are accusing him of an omission in the immigration forms he submitted over 20 years ago.
He exercised his rights and now they are trying to take away his freedom.
We can't allow the exercise of our Fifth Amendment rights to be threatened. It is everyone's right in America to exercise their fundamental right to silence. The intimidation must stop! You can help. Donate now.
